Ohio State Alumni Spotlight and Chicago Alumni Awards

Heather Blackmon do-Forno, Special Events Chair

Heather graduated with a BA in History of Art in June of 1998.  Throughout her time at OSU, Heather played the trumpet in The Ohio State University Marching Band for five years, serving two years as a Squad Leader.   Since graduation, Heather has remained actively involved in the TBDBITL Alumni Club.  Currently serving in her fifth term on the TBDBITL Board of Governors, Heather is a member of the Travel and Annual Reunion Committees.

While living in Columbus, Heather worked in Event Planning and Sports Marketing.   Heather relocated to Chicago earlier this year due to her husband’s job change, and is now searching for new employment opportunities, as well as fun ways to get involved and meet new people.

Chicago Alumni Awards

This year at our event at the Shedd Aquarium we honored three Chicago Buckeyes with awards.  Get involved with the club today!  This could be you next year!!

Our first award is given to a young alumnus who has dedicated a lot of time to developing our alumni club’s community service program and giving back to our Chicago community.  She has organized a back to school book drive that brought in over 200 books that were donated to Kozminski Academy (a Chicago Public elementary school), she has organized volunteers to serve at the Lakeview Food Pantry and Chicago Food Depository, raised over $400 for our Adopt a Family program over the 2009 holiday season, helped to organize a Big Ten Canned Food Drive and so much more!  The recipient of the inaugural community service award is Jasmin Jenkins.  She is an integral part of our alumni club and we are so very lucky to have her serving our Ohio State Alumni in the Chicago area.  Because of all that she has given back, the community service award will be named after her, Jasmin Jenkins Community Service Award.

Ron and Marcia Schild are being presented with the Chicago Alumni Club’s first forever buckeye award.  What Ron and Marcia mean to the Alumni Club and the University is hard to sum up into just words.  Over the past 12 years they have spent numerous hours recruiting Chicago area students to attend the Ohio State University—by attending Chicago college fairs, scheduling alumni volunteers, attending Yield Receptions, hosting alternative spring break students, and they were also essential in planning our first Student Send Off last August which drew over 140 first year students, parents and alumni.   Ron has also served as past Biological Sciences Alumni Society President and as a representative to the College of Biological Sciences Alumni Advisory Council.  Marcia is the former President of Edlums-the alumni society for the College of Education.  For all that Ron and Marcia have given to the Ohio State community our Forever Buckeye Award will be named in their honor.
